Do the triggers from Fountain of Renewal go on the stack separately?

Asked by DragonChampions 4 years ago

So I had an idea for a deck using Fountain of Renewal and Bloodthirsty Aerialist . Suppose I have 2 Fountains. Does Aerialist get 2 +1/+1 counters as they trigger separately, or does it technically happen at the same time?

When an event triggers multiple triggered abilities at the same time they all go on the stack and then they will resolve one at a time with a round of priority between each resolution. This means that you will have 2 instances of lifegain and therefore get two +1/+1 counters.

In detail what happens in your scenario is:

Your upkeep begins and you get a trigger from each Fountain of Renewal . You can put the triggers on the stack in any order you wish, but because they are the same the order doesn't really matter.

There is a round of priority and if no one takes any action the trigger on the top of the stack resolves gaining you 1 life. Bloodthirsty Aerialist triggers at this time. You put the Aerialist trigger on the stack.

There is a round of priority and if no one takes any actions the Bloodthirsty Aerialist trigger resolves putting a +1/+1 counter on it.

There is a round of priority and if no one takes any action the remaining Fountain trigger resolves gaining you 1 life. Bloodthirsty Aerialist triggers at this time. You put the Aerialist trigger on the stack.

There is a round of priority and if no one takes any actions the Bloodthirsty Aerialist trigger resolves putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
