Do lifelink and Noble Purpose stack?

Asked by slayerx1779 12 years ago

If I have a creature with lifelink, say, card:Ajani's Sunstriker, and I cast Noble Purpose , whenever card:Ajani's Sunstriker deals damage, would I only gain two life because Noble Purpose essentially gives lifelink to a creature that has it, or would I gain four life, because card:Ajani's Sunstriker's lifelink triggers in addition to Noble Purpose 's effect. I personally think it's the latter, but I just wanted to be sure.

You would gain 4 life.

Lifelink is a static ability, so it doesn't trigger or use the stack, you gain 2 life as soon as the damage is dealt. Noble Purpose then triggers, causing you to gain 2 more life as soon as that ability resolves.

Checking the Gatherer site, it doesn't say it gives the creature lifelink.

The creature's own lifelink and the aura would trigger independently.

So yes, it would give double lifelink, effectively.

Greatsword is correct.

The Gatherer's Oracle text for Noble Purpose says "Whenever a creature you control deals combat damage, you gain that much life." This is NOT the same as lifelink, so if a creature you control has lifelink, both abilities will trigger when it deals combat damage.

Note, however, that Noble Purpose is not an Aura. It is a regular enchantment that grants this ability to all creatures you control.
