Do Emblems count as Artifacts?

Just curious.

No. Emblems are their own kind of game object. They go to the command zone, and no effects or cards currently interact with them after that.

Emblems aren't permanents, and they certainly aren't artifacts, as they don't say the word artifact on them...
No effects are able to interact with them (exile permanent, for example, or sacrifice a permanent wouldn't interact because they don't actually exist on the battlefield, as Epochalyptik stated. They simply exist. More precisely, they exist in an area known as the command zone which, if you aren't familiar with commander/EDH, is a zone things can exist in, similar to exile, except it isn't, and you can play your commander and/or have your emblems' static effects "command" events on the battlefield from there.

An object created by an effect (meaning something that isn't simply a land card you're playing or a spell card you're casting) has the types specifically given to it by that effect. So far, there are no emblems whose effect gives them the "artifact" card type. They aren't artifacts.

It stays in the command zone and its static ability continues to work.

As everyone has stated above me, emblems are not permanents, especially not artifacts. They could be described as a static ability given to a player that can't be removed. The only card I know of that deals with an emblem (removing it and such) is Karn Liberated 's last ability, seeing it is a complete restart. Other than that, they are there to stay.
