Djinn Illuminatus and suspend
Asked by deadmanwalking 13 years ago
If I use Djinn Illuminatus to try and replicate something like Ancestral Vision , how does it interact? Can I replicate it? If so, when? What about Reality Strobe ?

This is all correct. Another thing to keep in mind is if you cast anything with X in the mana cost, the value of X in the spell's replicate cost will be the same as the value of X you chose for its mana cost.

Interesting. Thanks, I was just wondering how replicate interacted with suspend. It's not worth it :P

orical ruleing of ancestral vision
10/15/2006 This has no mana cost, which means it can't be cast with the Replicate ability of Djinn Illuminatus or by somehow giving it Flashback.
so no you cant deck someone like that

I'm not positive, but I imagine this is how it would work. The reminder text of Djinn Illuminatus says, "When you play it, copy it for each time you paid its replicate cost."
With Suspend, the reminder text says, "When you remove the last (time counter), play it without paying its mana cost.". So I would think when you play the card from exile, you can replicate it for its converted mana cost
With Reality Strobe , if you played it for it's suspend cost (2U), three turns later when it came into play, you could replicate if for it's mana cost (4UU), not the suspend cost.
Ancestral Vision is actually a pretty easy answer. There is an official ruling on the card that reads, "This has no mana cost, which means it can't be cast with the Replicate ability of Djinn Illuminatus or by somehow giving it Flashback."
