Destroying a land at instant speed

If a person plays a spell like in response to a spell i have casted Counterspell while they have only 2 island, if I respond to their counter with Smashing Success and destroy one of the island does the spell counterspell still resolve?

If they have cast the spell, they have already spent the mana that the land made. Destroying the land has no bearing on it. If you attempt to destroy the land, they can just float the mana in response and can use it until the step or phase ends. Even in response to split second you can float the mana. Land destruction is more about denying mana on future turns, not the current one.
