Dead Weight your own creatures?

Can you Dead WeightMTG Card: Dead Weight your own creatures? Can you Go for the ThroatMTG Card: Go for the Throat your own? Some friends I play with are doing this all the time to trigger things that say "when a creature dies" and then they are stacking counters.

Just wondering....too new to know. Just doesn't seem right. Especially with undying creatures....or it's brilliant LOL.

Yes. Spells our abilities that target a player or creature can be used on any legal target even if it's the player casting the spell or a creature they control. The same applies for any permanent.

emrakool, Savra requires you to sacrifice. Things like [Dead Weight]] and Go for the ThroatMTG Card: Go for the Throat don't cause things to be sacrificed, but destroyed.

I know I was adding another reason to make your creatures die on purpose in response to the Grave PactMTG Card: Grave Pact comment.
