dash outside of the hand?

This just popped up in my head so I'm not sure if it's a dumb question or not. with Zurgo Bellstriker and his dash ability if I'm using him as a commander and he's popped in and out 2 times so he costs five. can I just use is dash cost to bring him out to play or do I need to pay the full 5?

I'm not extremely proficient with EDH rules, but if memory serves, the extra mana cost from EDH is an additional cost, and Dash is an alternative cost, so you'd have to pay the ////whatever on top of his Dash cost OR his regular cost. so if he costs more, it would cost to hardcast him, and to Dash him, if he cost more, he'd cost to hardcast, or to Dash him.

didn't occur to me that his dash effect would grow in cost as well

Commander tax is an additional cost that must be paid whenever you cast your commander from the command zone. It doesn't matter if you are casting him for his printed Mana Cost or his Dash Cost. So you can either cast Zurgo for or dash him for .
