Damage against indestructible creatures

Asked by lakais88 9 years ago

If I block a Fleecemane Lion with an active Nylea, God of the Hunt , then damage goes through and then they cast a Bile Blight on Nylea, God of the Hunt . Would she die from the Bile Blight or no?

In DOTP, when a creature takes damage it subtracts it from their defense. Does this apply the same

Duels of the Planeswalkers does this incorrectly, I assume to make it easier to understand, but it's still very wrong. Damage done to a creature is simply marked on it, it does NOT reduce it's toughness, so Nylea will still be a 6/6. You would need to hit her with 2 Bile Blight 's to killer it as that would reduce her toughness to 0.

No it wouldnt be destroyed...

Rule 702.12b: A permanent with indestructible can't be destroyed. Such permanents aren't destroyed by lethal damage, and they ignore the state-based action that checks for lethal damage.

Some digital versions of the game show an apparent reduction to toughness as the result of damage, but that's not what's really going on. It's just a graphic-design choice that makes it easy to see how close a creature is to dying from damage. When damage is dealt to a creature, that damage is marked on it until end of turn. This doesn't change its toughness. In your example Nylea is a 3/3 with 3 marked damage after Bile Blight resolves. Since she's indestructible, the 3 damage marked against her toughness won't destroy her.
