Counter storm copies
Asked by morphranos 10 years ago
How would counterspell and a card with storm play out. Ex: storm ability resolves creating copies when played, and only original countered. Or the whole spell is countered before the storm effect can activate

Storm creates multiple copies of the same spell when it is cast, not when it resolves. If someones storm count is 20 and they cast Grapeshot , storm will trigger and they will get 20 copies of it. It doesn't matter if you counter the original spell or not.
This is where the Overload cost of Counterflux comes into play.

First, storm doesn't activate. It's a triggered ability, so it triggers.
Storm triggers when you cast the source spell. This means the ability is put onto the stack above the spell. Once on the stack, an ability exists independently of its source. Countering the source of this ability will not counter the ability. The storm ability will still resolve and create copies of the original spell, regardless of whether that spell is still on the stack.

Thanks, guys. I was thinking it would, but not a %100. Now it's time to light some one up with a million grapeshots. LOL

the copies would still be there even if the original is countered because storm says when you cast it copy it for each spell you casted before it. So countering the original just gets rid of that one copy.
