Copying Spells that Exile on Resolution

Asked by ComradeJim270 8 years ago

So, the Melek EDH I'm working on obviously requires me to understand the ins and outs of copying spells (because Melek). What I want to know is what happens if I copy something like Volcanic Vision or Pull from the Deep that is exiled when it resolves.

Does it just put the copy on the stack and when the original and all the copies resolve the card is exiled as normal, or is there some weirdness going on? I'd assume the former, but want to be sure.

Please make sure to list all cards you are referencing:

Melek, Izzet Paragon

You are correct. When you cast (let's just use Pull from the Deep) Pull from the Deep from the top of your library, Melek triggers. When the trigger resolves, you copy Pull from the Deep. The copy will resolve before the original and will only exile itself (not the original). Then, assuming the original resolves, it will then exile itself.

Thank you, it's good to be sure of that.

The only weirdness that I Foresee happening is that you cast your self-exiling spell and have the copy target the same thing(s). This way, the original is countered and thus is not exiled (no legal targets) and can be used later.
