Copying Spells, take two

Asked by esterk 13 years ago

Seems like my first question may have glitched or something? Maybe it's just me that can't access it, but it also shows that it has -1 views...what? Anyway, reposted it.

Just a quick one! If I Reverberate my own timeley-reinforcements, and that spell would put me over the requirements for it trigger both effects, what happens?

For example, I cast timeley-reinforcements. My life is 19 against my opponent's 20. I have two creatures against my opponent's three. I then Reverberate the spell. Do I get 6 soldiers and 12 life? Or, because the first one would bump me above my opponent's numbers in both categories, does the copied spell simply resolve but not help me in any way?

Another question about this interaction - what if my opponent uses the spell, and I Reverberate HIS timely? Say the same scenario above was presented, but he had less life and creatures? Do I get nothing because I have more of both? Or do I get to copy the spell exactly as it works for him?

Thanks guys, sorry if my wording is a bit odd, it's hard to explain, haha.

I loved the -1 answers to your last topic, cracked me up.

Anyway, Timely Reinforcements checks for its if-clauses upon resolution. So, in your proposed scenario, you would cast Timely, then Reverberate , the 'Verber would resolve, creating a copy, which would resolve and check your lifetotal and creaturecount. It would find both if-clauses to be true, and give you 6 life and 3 dudes.

Then your original spell would resolve, and check both factors, which by this time are no longer true (you will have 25 lives vs 20, and 5 dudes vs 3) so it would resolve and do nothing.

The only way for both to do something, is to have at least 7 life and 4 creatures less than your opponent.

The first will resolve, netting you 6 life, and 3 soldiers. Then when the second resolves it sees you as not having less life than your opponent, so you don't get 6 life. and not less creatures than your opponent, so you don't get 3 soldiers.

About your second question, this (of course) also checks upon resolution. If you would Reverberate his Timely Reinforcements , you would get a copy, which would check your lifetotal and creaturecount (which will probably be higher than his, or he would never have cast his Timely) and do as much as it can.

Then his would start to resolve, and check both Ifs for him, and also resolve doing as much as it can.

Be aware tho that if you would have gotten 6 life and 3 creatures, this would only have increase his chances of also getting the 6 life and the 3 creatures. So Reverberate on an opponents Timely Reinforcements might not be the best idea ever tried ;)

Bah I need an edit button this time of night. Anyway, in your proposed scenario, if you copy your opponents Timely Reinforcements , your copy would do nothing. Then your opponent's original resolves, granting both 6 lives and 3 creatures.
