Copies of Essence of the Wild

Suppose I have an Essence of the Wild in play, and for argument's sake a Saproling token that entered the battlefield after it and so is a copy of Essence of the Wild. If I now activate my Snake Basket 's ability and drop eight Cobra tokens on the board, and my opponent responds by hitting the original Essence with a Doom Blade , is my Saproling still a copy of the Essence when the Cobras enter the battlefield? Do they then enter as 6/6 copies of Essence of the Wild even though the original Essence died?

Essence of the Wild 's ability is a static one, meaning that it applies the entire time while it's in play. If a creature enters the battlefield during this time, the replacement effect will modify how that creature enters the battlefield to "enters as a copy of Essence of the Wild ". This means that the Snake Basket tokens will enter as Essence of the Wild s so long as you had an Essence of the Wild in play at the time they would enter the battlefield. The Saproling token remains an Essence of the Wild even if the original died, and so those snakes would enter as 6/6s.
