When Constricting Sliver enters the battlefield, dos he himself while a creature card, or only the slivers that come after

I assume you're asking "Does Constricting Sliver trigger its own ability when it enters the battlefield?". The answer is yes, when Constricting Sliver enters the battlefield it will trigger its own exile ability.

He will get to exile something. If it said something like "Whenever another Sliver enters the battlefield.." instead then you would not, but since he is a Sliver he will trigger when he enters the battlefield.

Constricting Sliver has a static ability that grants something to all slivers you control and is itself a sliver (granting the ability to itself). Static abilities work at all times when creature is a permanent (unless defined otherwise by the ability itself) and so it has the ETB ability it grants itself at all times it is a permanent.
So when Constricting Sliver enters the battlefield there is no time when it doesn't have its own ETB ability and so that ETB ability will trigger since it had the ability and it entered the battlefield. This is no different from other slivers entering the battlefield under your control since they are granted the exile ability by the static ability on Constricting Sliver they function in exactly the same way.
Also multiple instances of the ability, for example if you cast a second Constricting Sliver are not redundant and will trigger as normal. So when second Constricting Sliver enters the battlefield and every other sliver after that you get to exile two creatures from your opponent (or as many creatures as you have Constricting Sliver s).

Draugo are you sure that Constricting Sliver s brought into play after a Constricting Sliver each exiles a creature for each Constricting Sliver in play you control, as i had thought that each sliver you bring into play only exiles 1 creature.

As I did not realise that the exile effect was stackable, like Exalted, for example.

No. Each sliver that enters the battlefield triggers its OWN ability there is no stacking or doubling up.

Sorry i may have missread. IF you have multiple of constricting then you should get multiple triggers. Sorry i play EDH mosty so i dont have to deal with many duplicate creatures

EddCrawley Yes you will get multiple instances of the trigger if you have multiple Constricting Sliver s. Each ability will trigger separately just as with exalted or extort.

Draugo, im not sure that a Constricting Sliver would activate his own ability. Were this the case, a creature such as Archetype of Endurance would give all your creatures hexproof (as well as remove the hexproof of your opponents' creatures) before you even finish casting the spell. Constricting Sliver 's ability as well as Archetype of Endurance 's ability only apply AFTER they have entered the battlefield. Passive abilities of creatures only apply when they are ALREADY in the battlefield, not as they are ENTERING it.

In addition, after reading the official magic rule book, Constricting Sliver 's ability is defined as a static ability, not a triggered ability. Therefore, the ability he grants to all Slivers would not be triggered until after the static ability resolves, AFTER he enters the battlefield.

StDiablo You are mistaken. I believe your confusion is thinking that static abilities need to resolve in some way, which they do not.

Constricting Sliver has a static ability which creates a continuous effect and that then creates a triggered ability on all slivers you control. Continuous effects effect the game at all times, so there is never a time when the card is in play that the effect is not applying. In other words, the game never sees Constricting Sliver not have the triggered ability, so it will enter and trigger.

There are 2 relevant sections of the Comprehensive Rules when it comes to continuous effects and triggered abilities:Rule 611.3cRule 603.6d

Hope that helps
