Conjured Currency
Asked by GlimmerKing 11 years ago
I control a Burnished Hart with 3 untapped lands. My opponent controls a Conjured Currency . At the beginning of his upkeep he targets Burnished Hart with Conjured Currency 's ability. In response I sacrifice Burnished Hart Does the swap still occur leaving him with nothing and me with Conjured Currency ? Or no, because it's target left the battlefield?
When both sides of an exchange are not still legal upon the resolution of the ability causing the exchange, it doesn't happen.
He keeps his currency.

Because Conjured Currency 's triggered ability says "target permanent", when you sacrifice Burnished Hart the swap can't take place and the ability is effectively countered. You can also check Gatherer which says the following:
"The exchange occurs only if Conjured Currency and the target permanent are both on the battlefield and controlled by different players when the ability resolves. In addition, the target permanent must be one you neither own nor control. If any of these things aren't true when the ability tries to resolve, the exchange won't happen and neither permanent will change controllers."
