Clock of Omens with Sacrifice artifacts
Asked by pogoplay 12 years ago
With the card Clock of Omens, is it possible to stack it with Elixir of Immortallity? Let's say I tap the Elixir then use Clock of Omens to untap it, then tap the Elixir once again to gain 10 life, instead of the normal 5.
Thanks.

Note that the answer in the case of artifacts that do have "sacrifice" abilities (as stated in your question topic, but not actually asked in your question) is No. If sacrificing the artifact is part of the cost of activating the ability, your next opportunity to respond to the activation is after you've finished paying costs and putting the ability on the stack. At that time, the artifact won't be on the battlefield anymore to target with Clock of Omens . The only reason this trick does work with Elixir of Immortality is because it leaves the battlefield as part of the effect of its ability, not the cost.

Yes, this works. Elixir of Immortality does not leave the battlefield as soon as you activate the ability, but only after that ability resolves. Thus, you can untap it in response to activating, then activate it again. The second activation will resolve first, netting you +5 life and Elixir + your graveyard will be shuffled into your library. Then the first activation will resolve, doing as much as it possibly can (netting you +5 life and shuffling your graveyard, which is likely nothing, into your library).
