Clarification on the use of Lazav, Dimir Mastermind.

Asked by TheGodofNight 11 years ago

I'm trying to get an idea of how Lazav, Dimir Mastermind ability works. So if I mill out an opponent's Obzedat, Ghost Council , copy that with Lazav, can I exile Lazav and bring him back, or would he be exiled forever? Also, what stats change on Lazav, Dimir Mastermind , just his power and toughness? Does he gain a creature's abilities as well? Thanks in advance for helping me understand this.

Lazav's ability says he becomes a copy of the creature, so he actually becomes that creature in pretty much every way except for the things mentioned in the ability: his name, the ability and hexproof. He gets the abilities and creature types of the creature, it's mana cost and it's power and toughness.

When a card references itself in it's rules text,it actually means "this card" so even if the rules text on Obzedat says to return Obzedat to play, a Lazav copy will return to play as a normal Lazav.
