Clarification On How The Ozolith Works

Asked by TangoWithTojo 3 years ago

Dusk Urchins states that whenever its put into the graveyard, draw a card for each -1/-1 counter on it. So lets say I have 10 -1/-1 counters on The Ozolith. The combat phase starts and I put all 10 -1/-1 counters on Dusk Urchins. Would I draw 10 cards or just 3 due to Dusk Urchins only have 3 toughness?

So you have to move all the counters on The Ozolith if you decide to move any. The 10 counters would all move at the same time and just be overkill.

My question would be if Dusk Urchins even sees the counters because once dead they should revert right back to The Ozolith. Is it a stackable effect to where Urchins draws you cards and then the counters move?

Also an extension to my question, lets say I have Doubling Season on the battlefield. I have 10 -1/-1 counters on The Ozolith, when it moves the counters, would Dusk Urchins get 20 counters? And when they move back to The Ozolith after it dies, would The Ozolith get 40 counters because of Doubling Season?

DeinoStinkus, that is not correct.

First off, Doubling Season does interaction with The Ozolith. To "move" a counter in Magic, you remove the counter of the first permanent and put that many counters on the second permanent. Since you are putting counters on a permanent, Doubling Season will apply.

In the case where The Ozolith has 10 -1/-1 counters, the "at the beginning of combat" trigger will resolve and 20 -1/-1 counters will be put onto Dusk Urchins. The Urchins will promptly die, and you'll draw 20 cards and put 40 counters on The Ozolith.

Hope this helps, TangoWithTojo!!
