Casting Mass Manipulation in Combat

Asked by Kiran_M 4 years ago

What happens if I have a Teferi, Time Raveler out and activate his +1 ability, then cast Mass Manipulation during my opponent's combat step to steal a creature that is attacking me? Is it removed from combat? Can I declare it as a blocker (if it had vigilance)?

(This interaction is pretty common for me on Arena, but I haven't tried it because I am worried it won't work)

If the control of a creature is changed while it is an attacker or blocker, it is removed from combat. So, if you use Mass Manipulation on some attacking creatures, they are no longer attacking you. Provided that they are untapped or you untap them, you can also block with them as long as you haven't declared blockers already. Important note, if you take a creature that was blocking your creatures, no damage will be dealt unless that attacker has trample.

As a side note, this is also true for multi-player games. If I attack someone other than you, and you take control of an attacking creature, that creature is still removed from combat (even if it wasn't attacking you).

Hope this helps!!

Thanks a lot! Now I can confidently confuse people on Arena. I'll get back to this thread after testing it to describe the results. I really appreciate your advice!
