Casting and guttersnipe.

Asked by rodrigomper 11 years ago

Say i have a guttersnipe in play, and i cast a random instant, and then my opponent kills my guttersnipe with the intention of not taking its damage. Does that work? And what if i have the guttersnipe, cast an instant and my opponet counters it. Does he take guttersnipe's damage?

He'll still take the damage in both cases.

Guttersnipe 's abiltiy triggers whenever you cast an instant or sorcery; it doesn't matter if that spell resolves, just as long as the spell was successfully cast.

It also doesn't matter if the Guttersnipe is still alive when his abilty resolves. Once an object is on the stack, it is independent of its source and will resolve (unless countered, a la Stifle ).

Yes. Guttersnipe 's ability triggers when you cast the spell, before your opponent has the chance to cast anything. He does not have priority until you pass it to him. So you can cast several instants and put guttersnipe's ability on to the stack before he has the chance to kill it. And killing it won't stop the damage either.
