Casting an Aura without a creature to attach it to

Asked by Fizzz 11 years ago

Is this possible? Could I just cast the aura to activate the ability of Consuming Aberration , and then have it go to the grave?

No. You must have a target for the aura.

An aura spell has a target while it's being cast. If a spell has targets, you have to choose enough legal targets at the time you cast it, or else you can't cast it at all. You can't cast your aura on nothing.

Could you cast Redirect on an Aura?

@Fizzz: You can cast Redirect on any spell. What you mean to ask is "Could you choose new targets for an Aura by using Redirect ?" The answer to that question is yes. Aura spells have targets, and those targets can be reselected by effects that change targets.
