Can you run fist of suns in non-five color decks?
Asked by Darkfundip 6 years ago
Was looking to add Fist of Suns to some of my edh decks. However, I wasn't sure if I would legally be able to run it since it has all five colors in it's text description and the Commander(s) I want to run it with are not five color Commanders. I know you can produce all five colors of mana for it even when you aren't running a five color deck, but is it still legal to run Fist of Suns itself?

While Fist of Suns is a colourless card, it has a five-colour colour identity.
Colour identity looks at the following: (1) the colours in the card's mana cost; (2) any colour indicators or abilities which define colour; and (3) any mana symbols in a card's rules' text (mana symbols in reminder text--currently only found on cards with Extort--do not count).
If any of those result in a colour, that colour becomes part of the card's colour identity. In this case, there are all five mana symbols in the rules text, and therefore it has a color identity of all five colours and cannot be used in any deck other than those where the commander is also five coloured.
