Can Karn Liberated ultimate an emblem away

Asked by Toshikei 9 years ago

So an interesting question came up in a 10 person edh's planechase game on Friday. One of our players hit daretti's ultimate making an emblem. We were trying to find a way to deal with said problem and since emblems are in your 'command zone' and can't be targeted with things like devastation tide or overloaded cyclonic rift we were about to die until we planes walked away from wherever we were and ended up on basically doubling season. Karn was played and restarted the game. Stuff ensued and we eventually said Karn wiped away the emblem the question I'm basically asking was were we right in that when Karn resets the game does the emblem disappear.

The Emblem won't be there. It's explained in the rulings for Karn, but for some reason it won't let me post them.

6/1/2011 Players won't have any poison counters or emblems they had in the original game.

Emblems can be interacted with (as per Maro's blog), but currently nothing in the game is actually able to do it, besides creating them.

Awesome thanks I'm surprised this was responded to so fast and I'm also surprised no one asked why we decided to do 10 man edh's planechase immediately following an fnm event.

10 man planechase edh game? I'm very jealous.

But, yeah, Karn's ultimate is the only way to remove emblems. Personally, I doubt any (more) emblem removal is coming out. Not anytime soon at least.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised and it took so long I left before it ended and I had only a 30 minute drive home and 10 minutes after I left it was morning. There were still 4 people left.

I've been in 10 man Commander games. It's not that odd. I avoid them because they take so long, and the end is often anticlimatic.

A charity event at the LGS had 20+ players, they used limited "reach" rules to make it manageable (something like, you could only target players sitting next to you, and "global" effects only affected players up to two steps away, until there were 5 players left). They also had a small statuette that passed around the table to indicate who had the current turn.

Yeah we did the same only attack directly next can target 2 away and effects that said all targeted each player. It does add some fun dynamics to the game. It just took forever and took so long I actually decked out because my deck takes infinite turns but doesn't do anything until I can make sure I get to loop it. Like I let everyone do their thing kill each other then ta-day you no longer get turns with mirari nivix Echo Mage and beacon of tomorrow.

It's odd for me because I never see it happen in my area, no matter how hard I try to make one happen.

We won't usually have 10 usually it's like 5 or 6 depending on who shows up also it's a small playgroup at fnm anyways so it's more of a casual thing since we don't hang out often we get to mess around and play more magic since our store only runs 3/4 rounds.
