Can I use Lancers en-Kor to redirect damage to my Beloved Chaplain?

Asked by Sinq_ 2 years ago

Beloved Chaplain has protection from creatures, so I believe it cannot be the target of any creature ability. Lancers en-Kor doesn't specifically say target, but I think the text indicates that I still need to target a creature, so does that mean I cannot target my own Beloved Chaplain ?

Lancers en-Kor does specifically say target in its ability. Under its oracle text - the official and controlling text uses by a card, regardless of what the physical copy might say, the ability reads:

“The next 1 damage that would be dealt to Lancers en-Kor this turn is dealt to target creature you control instead.”

As a follow up, can I use Gideon's Sacrifice and choose my Beloved Chaplain ? Or is this still targeting?

I ask because the oracle text for Gideon's Sacrifice does not use the word target.

Gideon's Sacrifice will still work. No part of its effects target, but even if it did your Beloved Chaplain would still be a legal target because the thing doing the targeting is an instant, not a creature.
