Can I survive a death-causing damage by playing an instant speed life-gain spell?

Asked by Bloodthirsty 11 years ago

Hey guys,

I have two lives, my opponent uses Lightning Bolt on me. Can I survive by playing Heroes' Reunion as a reaction?

Yes.

We'll assume you have 3 life. Lightning Bolt would deal 3 damage to you, then you would lose the game as a state-based action after Lightning Bolt resolves. If you cast Heroes' Reunion in response to Lightning Bolt , you will have more than 3 life and won't be at 0 or less life when Lightning Bolt resolves.

Yes. Uuhu

After he casts Lightning Bolt , you have prority to cast spells and activate abilities. If Heroes' Reunion is in your hand, than you can cast it.

just to clarify, you have to cast Heroes' Reunion before the Lightning Bolt resolves. what happens is you put the reunion on the stack in front of the bolt, which means when both of you have no further responses, you will gain 7 life before you lose 3

What about the other way around? Opponent at 3 life, plays Hero's reunion, and then I play lightning bolt. Would my spell resolve deal 3, and the STB checks...sees that my opponent is at zero before his hero's reunion resolves?

Sorry, I didn't see anything noting that the thread shouldn't be added too.
