Can I pay life with no lose cards even when I have 0 life?

Asked by Elizabeth_the_Dragon 14 years ago

Cards like Platinum Angel and Phyrexian Unlife have effects that make it so you cannot lose the game, even if your life is 0 or in the negatives. So I was wondering can I pay life for effects like Sign in Blood or the new phyrexian mana if I have 0 or less life but I have the no lose cards on the field?

Sign in Blood will not affect you because you aren't paying life. However, if you do not have enough life to pay a cost (for example, card:Demon of Death's Gate or the new phyrexian mana symbol) you cannot play that card.

In short, you can not pay life you don't have, but you can lose life you don't have.

118.4. If a cost or effect allows a player to pay an amount of life greater than 0, the player may do so only if his or her life total is greater than or equal to the amount of the payment. If a player pays life, the payment is subtracted from his or her life total; in other words, the player loses that much life. (Players can always pay 0 life.)

If a spell allows/requires you to pay X life, you may do so only if your life is >=X.

IN short, you cant pay life that will make your life total to 0 or negative.
