Can I lifelink against myself?
Asked by jros528 10 years ago
Im using Eidolon of the Great Revel with a lifelink enchantment attached. if I were to cast a spell with a mana cost of 3 or under, I know I would take 2 damage from Eidolon, but would I then gain it back with lifelink?

Whether or not the damage is "lethal" to you doesn't matter. You gain life at the same time the damage is dealt, so your life total doesn't actually decrease if a source you control with lifelink deals damage to you.
Before the M10 Rules Update lifelink was a triggered ability and there was a gap in-between the time damage was dealt and the time you gained life, but ever since M10 it's been a static ability that alters the result of damage being dealt.

Ok. That's right. My brain has been fuzzy lately, thanks for the clarification.

Whenever a source with lifelink deals damage, the source's controller gains life. So, yes, giving Eidolon of the Great Revel lifelink will negate the damage dealt to you...unless it's lethal.
