Can I Copy a shapeshifter creature with another shape shifter
Asked by Magicwings 10 years ago
This came up in our game tonight, I had a clever impersonator out that came onto the field as a copy of a brood mother, I then played a mercurial pretender as a copy of the clever impersonator which in my thought process would technically be a brood mother due to that is how it came out onto to the field. Is this a legal move or does it just become another copy of the clever impersonator.
It would essentially be a copy of the Broodmother in the case you describe, except it would also have "2UU: Return this creature to its owner's hand."

Link all cards in your question.
Clever Impersonator
broodmother
Mercurial Pretender
Your Mercurial Pretender will enter the battlefield as a copy of Clever Impersonator, which is a copy of broodmother . The end result is effectively the same as just copying broodmother directly.
Mercurial Pretender will also have the additional ability defined by its copy effect.

It becomes a copy of both because it copies a creature that is copying broodmother .
The actual interaction would be significant if you did it in reverse order. If you copied broodmother with Mercurial Pretender, then copied Mercurial Pretender with Clever Impersonator, you'd end up with a Clever Impersonator that is a copy of broodmother with the additional ability ": Return this creature to its owner's hand."

And please remember to select an answer to remove this question from the active queue.
Also, there's no card called Broodmother.
