Can I cast Twinflame on multiple targets if I cast it for free?

Asked by Thrandin 1 year ago

Twinflame has the Strive effect, meaning that it costs 2 colourless and 1 red mana more for each additional target of the spell. Since this isn't an additional or optional cost, will this be accounted for if I cast Twinflame from the effect of Galvanoth?

While Strive doesn't explicitly use the phrase "As an additional cost," it is an additional cost denoted by the term "more." If you cast Twinflame using Galvanoth you'll start with it being free, then pay for each target beyond the first. From Gatherer:

4/26/2014: If a spell or ability allows you to cast a strive spell without paying its mana cost, you must pay the additional costs for any targets beyond the first.
