Can I Betow upon a creature enchanted with Holy Mantle?
Asked by MinscAndBoo 11 years ago
I enchant my Fabled Hero with Holy Mantle . Not content to deal 10 points of unblockable damage, I wish to Bestow Boon Satyr on him as well. But the Satyr is a creature, and the Hero now has protection from creatures.
Is this possible? I've read that a creature cast as Bestow "is never a creature spell", but it's still a creature for the purposes of living in my hand and announcing my spell, is it not?

The key thing is that decisions about using alternative costs are made before targets are chosen. That's part of how Bestow is able to work at all. First you choose to use the Bestow alternative cost, making the spell a non-creature Aura spell, and then you have to choose a target for your Aura spell.

MTGO will NOT let you Bestow on to a creature that is enchanted with Holy Mantle.

If that's the case then it's a bug, and it should be reported.

Protection prevents the following things from happening:
D - Damage
E - Enchanting/Equipping
B - Blocking
T - Targeting
As you can see in the reminder text for Bestow, if you play it for its bestow cost, it is an Aura spell with Enchant Creature. It only becomes a creature again (ie: At this time it is not a creature) if it isn't attached to a creature.
As an Aura, you can attach it to a creature enchanted with Holy Mantle.
