Can an Undying card be sac'ed twice to pay Delraich's ability?
Asked by Davellus 10 years ago
I'm in the process of building a casual B/G sacrifice deck. Suppose that, on the second turn, I play a Young Wolf and already have one other creature card in play. Could I sacrifice Young Wolf twice, in addition to the other card, to pay Delraich's cost?

Please link your cards, formatting guide at the bottom.
No, you can't. When you cast a spell you must pay all costs in full immediately. If you can't, the spell isn't cast. Undying is a triggered ability, and so it uses the stack to resolve. You can't "wait" for the ability to resolve so you can sac Young Wolf again.
Also, Young Wolf is not a black creature.

Link all cards in your question.
Delraich
Young Wolf
No.
Undying is a triggered ability. It needs to go onto the stack and resolve before it has any effect.
When you pay a cost, you must pay the complete cost all at once. You can't make partial payments, and you can't put the casting or activation process on hold to put something else on the stack and resolve it. Nothing can interrupt the casting/activation process.
