Can a player regenerate a creature he is forced to sacrifice

Can a player regenerate a creature that he/she has sacrificed ?

Example: opposing has only a single Creature, it is enchanted with Trollhide , I play Geth's Verdict therefor he must sacrifice the creature. Can he regenerate it ?

I was under the impression destroy was defined as cards that litterally state "destroy", or any effect that would lower that creatures toughness to 0. Since he is removing the creature from the game himself/sacrificing it, may he still regenerate it ?

No. Regenerate Specifically stops "destroy" effects, which currently are 1) lethal damage marked on the creature or 2) effects which specifically use the word "destroy". Sacrificing is not considered a destroy effect, and will not be prevented by regeneration.

Also, effects that lower toughness (for example, Mutilate ) do get around regeneration, as they do not "destroy" the creature either. Damage does not lower toughness, it is merely marked on the creature.

Sacrifice is not the same as destruction. Destruction is caused by damage or effects that say "destroy". Sacrificing a creature just sends it to the graveyard.

So, in your case, regeneration doesn't have any effect. Your opponent may of course regenerate his creature, but it's sent to the graveyard nonetheless.
