Brain in a jar

2 questions here 1) how does this work with x spells? (Eg it has 5 charge counters can I Fireball for 4?) 2) does this let you cast sorcery spells at instant speed?

No it does not work that way with x spells fireball would be a 1 mana cost card so it would just cast it for 0 because it does not reduce the cost or add mana to use to cast the card.

Yes it does allow you to cast sorcery spells at instant speed once you activate the ability you then cast the spell no matter what kind it is.

  1. It does not work well with X spells. You are casting this card without paying its mana cost, so the only way to cast fireball with brain in a jar is when it has 0 counters - you will be able to cast fireball with x=0.

  2. Yes.

The CMC of a spell with X in the cost disregards the X. Fireball has a CMC of 1. When cast without paying the cost, you have no way to pay X, so you will cast Fireball with X=0. You can do this, it just doesn't accomplish much most of the time.

So if I wanted to cast 3 CMC and 4 CMC spells, I'd need to get two out with those counters to accomplish that?
