Braid of Fire question (probably asked already)

Asked by UmbrotheUmbreon 12 years ago

Okay so I have had an issue brought up a couple times.

When DOES Braid of Fire 's mana empty out? When you transition into the main phase 1 or after the upkeep step?

Mana pools empty at the end of each step and phase. Since Braid of Fire 's ability adds the mana to your mana pool in your upkeep, that mana will only be available during the upkeep. It will be drained from your mana pool when you transition to the draw step.

Mana of any kind always empties from the mana pool when a step or phase ends (this was changed when Wizards got rid of mana burn). So Braid of Fire 's mana will empty when you end the upkeep step. Braid of Fire was made as a good, but risky way of paying for the many many cards will a cumulative upkeep cost in the Coldsnap set (this being that you could use the mana to pay other cumulative upkeep costs of other cards, but if you still had mana left over you would take mana burn at the end of your turn. Hope this helps!

Faithless Looting can't be cast during your upkeep - it's a sorcery. I hope you have other plans or some shenanigans to make that work.
