aurification against attacking creature land

Asked by emoon326 8 years ago

my bro casts aurification enchantment. i use skaarg guild mages 3 mana ability to turn my land into a 4/4 elemental until end of turn and attack with it. it then becomes aurified with a gold counter after that. does it stay a 4/4 defender or does it become 0/0 defender land and fall into my grave yard because its now a 0/0 defender land?

Please link all cards in your question: Aurification, Skarrg Guildmage

Your land would return to being a land, but it would have a Gold counter on it. The effect that animates the land ends, so it is no longer a creature (making the second ability of Aurification moot). Aurification only gives CREATURES an extra type and Defender, which in no way keeps the land animated.

To add just a little to merrowMania's answer, since the gold counter isn't removed from the land, if you were to reanimate the land with Skarrg Guildmage (say next turn), the animated land would once again gain the "wall" subtype and "Defender" if Aurification is still on the field.

No, as counters do not 'fall off' of permanents when they gain/lose card types (see Raging Ravine). It would become a creature with a gold counter on it, which, according to Aurification's second ability, means it gains the type Wall and the ability Defender.
