at what times can u use Butcher of the Horde effect

Asked by trowie 9 years ago

when can u use Butcher of the Horde effect to sac a monster? is it only in the main phase or can u do it after attacking too?

like say i have a Mardu Ascendancy out and i attack with Butcher of the Horde making a token. can i then sac the token after its on the feild to give Butcher of the Horde lifelink? or is it to late by then?

You can activate abilities without timing restrictions (like the one of Butcher of the Horde) at any time if you can pay the cost (sacrifice a dude) and you have priority.

In the example you gave, you are free to do as you described - after attackers are declared, the triggered ability of the Ascendancy goes on the stack, resolves and gives you a token. You then have priority and can sac the token to give the Butcher lifelink.

Note though, that since the Butcher taps when being declared as an attacker, while you could give it vigilance or haste, neither of those would really 'do anything' if you're saccing the creature that was created by Mardu Ascendency.
