me and a friend were playing a game, and he played a Drove of ElvesMTG Card: Drove of Elves. he said it was already a 5/5 because there was it and 4 forests. is this true? please quote the rules in your answer.

I don't know where it says on the rules specifically why Lands aren't colored permanents. so I can't be as technical as you like

but simply put, lands are not "colored" permanents because lands have no casting cost (as in 0) with no mana symbol to make it a specific kind of color but are permanents nonetheless because of hte nature of interaction they have with the board/playing field

Lands are colorless permanents.

202.1b Some objects have no mana cost. This normally includes all land cards, any other cards that have no mana symbols where their mana cost would appear, tokens (unless the effect that creates them specifies otherwise), and nontraditional Magic cards. Having no mana cost represents an unpayable cost (see rule 117.6). Note that lands are played without paying any costs (see rule 305, "Lands").

202.2. An object is the color or colors of the mana symbols in its mana cost, regardless of the color of its frame.

202.2b Objects with no colored mana symbols in their mana costs are colorless.

One of the biggest mistakes I've seen with new players, up there with lands=mana. No, lands are emphatically NOT colored permanents. Colorless all the way (Except for Dryad ArborMTG Card: Dryad Arbor, but it's a Future Sight special case.)

Oh... whoops. I guess last time I eliminated someone in an EDH match with Drove of ElvesMTG Card: Drove of Elves it was only like a 20/20 instead of about 40/40. :-/ It does make him not as good as I thought.

Excuse me epochalyptic I don't know what your fancy numbers mean in your response...are you a robot access accessing your mtg database. I think you were programmed wrong because I have human eyes that see in color where you have robot eyes. this gives me the ability to see color which you have the limitation of seeing colorless. did you honestly believe wizards would spend millions(rough estimate) of dollars coloring their lands just so they could be colorless. shame on your on robotness. As a seasoned veteran of magic (III brigade) I remember in my younger years playing with lands that hand color identification on them. I believe Wizards thought that players would have common sense to finally figure the colors by looking at them rather then having it type it on the card. However they probably overlooked you and your fellow robots in this decision. I don't know if your familiar with the game type EDH sir, but you cant use lands that aren't of your general's COLOR. You remind me of a young planeswalker I used to know named Karn who had no soul and saw everything in colorless. May god have mercy on your soul(if you have one)
