Apostle's Blessing

Asked by 40cal 11 years ago

When it says target creature you own gains protection from target artifact or color of your choice does that mean instants and sorcery of the selected color cannot affect my creature as well. Or is that only for creatures?

Apostle's Blessing

Couple of things here: it says "Target artifact or creature you control" rather than "you own" (important, because it can be used on things you have obtained control of from opponents, but not on things you have lost control of).

You get to choose to either give it protection from artifacts, or protection from a color of your choice. This protection behaves just as regular protection does, including protection from sorceries and permanents of the named color, causing targetted effects to fail and damage to be negated. DEBT applies; assume [quality] is a color or artifacts:

  • (D)amage from sources of [quality] is prevented
  • (E)nchantments or Equipment of [quality] cannot be attached
  • (B)locking, the creature or artifact cannot be blocked by creatures with [quality]
  • (T)argetting, the creature or artifact cannot be targetted by effects originating from [quality]

This may effectively "counter" instants if Apostle's Blessing resolves first, such as if you cast the Blessing in response to Unsummon on the same target, and choose blue, Unsummon will fail to resolve because its target is illegal.

  1. Apostle's Blessing doesn't grant protection from a target artifact. It can give you protection from artifacts(as in all artifacts).

  2. When a creature has protection from a color, that means that it has protection from ALL SPELLS and ALL PERMANENTS of that color.

This means that spells and permanents can't

Damage
Target
Enchant or Equip
Block

the targeted artifact or creature.

Remember the acronym: D.E.B.T.
