Angels Grace frustration

Asked by Krosan 12 years ago

They had near-death experience out. I used a Sorin's Vengeance which would have killed him but he played Angels Grace. Is there anyways in the future I could stop this or is it a game ended because of split second?

Split second means that you cannot activate nonmana abilities or cast spells while an object with split second is on the stack.

Note that card:Angel's Grace only changes the result of damage. Abilities that cause loss of life without dealing damage can still get past it and kill your opponent.

You can also kill him at upkeep in response to Near-Death Experience 's ability.

Epochalyptik Correct me if i'm wrong but I could deal damage on his turn even though Near-Death Experience says Beginning of upkeep? And card:Angel's Grace says reducing your life past 1. Wouldn't lose of life or dealing damage be negated because it would bring it below one?

@Krosan: You'd have to look at the wording of card:Angel's Grace closely. Damage and loss of life are two different matters.

Although damage always results in a loss of life, loss of life does not result in damage. Therefore, card:Angel's Grace may prevent damage that turn, however, any loss of life (not as a result of damage, eg Small Pox) that reduces life to zero will still occur.

The player who played card:Angel's Grace has until the end of turn to bring back his/her life total to more than zero in order to not lose when state is checked after card:Angel's Grace expires.

card:Angel's Grace's split second clause only prevents anything else from being added to the stack that it is currently in. Since it's still your turn, after the stack resolves fully, you may continue to attack, cast spells, activate abilities, etc.

At the beginning of the upkeep, Near-Death Experience 's trigger is put on the stack, and you will have a chance to respond to it, eg. casting Lightning Bolt in response to the trigger, before it resolves.

Correction: I mean, after card:Angel's Grace has resolved fully from the stack, you may continue to add to the stack, not wait for all items on the stack that card:Angel's Grace is on to resolve fully.
