About planeswalker points and abilities
Asked by DarkenedEmbers 8 years ago
Hi,Recently a friend and I got into a discussion about planeswalkers and their minus points abilities. We're both new to the game and we couldn't find something to clarify our problem up. What we were wondering is, if you play a card like Gideon, Ally of Zendikar which comes in with 4 points, could I then immediately use his -4 ability? or is that not allowed as it is effectively killing him. Would I have to wait till he has more than 4 points before I can play the -4 ability?

Thanks a lot, that really helps clear things up. I thought that's how it would work but my friend was unsure, and since we are both new to the game I felt it was best to check. Thanks again!

You can activate any ability of a planeswalker the turn they come in, as long as you are able to pay the appropriate cost. Removing four counters from Gideon, Ally of Zendikar will cause him to move to the graveyard, but is a legal action to take.
