Old School 93/94 sets on Tappedout

TappedOut forum

Does anyone know why Fallen Empires is considered an illegal set for old school 93/94 on this site?

It seems pretty standard at a lot of events that this set is included since it was the last release of '94.

Caerwyn should this be in the TappedOut forum section? It seems like it’d be more likely to get answered there (not trying to ignore you OP, I’m directing this to Caerwyn because they’re the staff member who I usually see fixing miscategorized posts.

To OP I don’t know the answer. If no one responds in a day or two who knows, I’d suggest that you maybe @ Femme_fatale or yeago? They’re the two I can think of who would be the most likely to know.

This is my first time posting, I wasn't sure where this would go. Thank you for the shout outs to those that may help.

I looked into this some since I’m not overly familiar with the 93/94 rules. Though a number of local places allow Fallen Empires, the official rules for 93/94 do not allow Fallen Order.

As far as I can tell, the reason Fallen Order is not allowed is because Fallen Order was the first set with a large print run. Looking around, it appears whoever sets the official 93/94 rules wants to keep the format as inaccessible as possible, and do not want the influx of relatively inexpensive decks that allowing Fallen Empires would bring.

Sounds like the people who set the rules are kind of tools, and that’s probably why you’re seeing localities that don’t give the official, arbitrarily pretentious, rules any credence. TappedOut, however, bases its legality system on the officially accepted rules for the format, no matter how forced the justifications might be.

So maybe we can have Oldtool 93-94 format which includes it ;)

If we do include it, please include it as Fallen Empires and not Fallen Order :P.

Though that sounds like a perfect card name for either the upcoming vampire or werewolf-centric sets.

Fallen Order: 1/2, White/Black human cleric. If a white creature enters the battlefield, transform Fallen Order. 3/3 black vampire horror. first strike. When you transform Fallen Order, Devour 1. (Sad face for anyone too close to them when they get triggered.)

Whoops. Seems I had Star Wars on the brain while posting!

I could also see Fallen Order be an enchantment. Maybe something involved with artifacts?

Thank you for the response Caerwyn, that makes sense.

I guess it was misleading that the biggest primer for the format on this site includes Fallen Empires in legality:

https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/old-school-9394-compendium/

I think I'll reach out to them about it. I think this should be it's own format then because it is very common to play the format this way.

Other notable places site Fallen Empires in legality like Channel Fireball: https://strategy.channelfireball.com/all-strategy/mtg/channelmagic-articles/new-format-old-school/

I really appreciate the information again, idk if it would be realistic to have it be a different listed format here since it is pretty niche anyways.
