Teferi, Temporal Pilgrim is this card modern playable?

You’re probably right… you spend 5 mana and get a 2/2. You have to protect it with Force of Negation but if the token survives it can swing as an untapped 4/4 that grows by 2 every turn and gives you a draw engine.
I mean games rarely go to top deck battles any more but this would be an awesome top deck

Not really. It just doesn’t do enough to protect itself.
Teferi, Hero of Dominaria can remove opposing threats, and untaps 2 lands if you +1 so you can protect it with a counter or removal spell. That’s the reason it’s playable in modern.
