How to stop opponents from conceding?
Modern Deck Help forum

I have played many games with my lantern control deck, and most of the time the opponent decides to concede because its so boring. I would like a way to stop people from conceding, while still playing lantern. Here's the deck:

My question is:
Why do you want people to not concede?
As soon as you have a Bridge and a couple of Lanterns, the game is over. It's done. The opponent can't do anything. Why not just concede on the spot, go to g2 instead of grinding out 37 rounds of nothing?
Besides that, Lantern is an evil deck that deserves no joy in watching me lose over 20 turns... ;)

Can't tell if this is sarcasm or a real question..............................

You find an opponent stubborn enough to grind it out until every single last out has been removed. Those people are few and far between.

If the goal of your deck is the achieve the lock then once that goal is met wouldn't you say it's a done deal? Makes no sense for your opponent to sit there and draw lands as you filter away what they need while slowly milling them out. Losing isn't fun, and being in a situation where you're losing facing a lock is even less fun.

The only reason I could see OP not wanting people to concede is for testing. More reps makes you better at the deck but cruel control decks that lock you out aren't fun for those players.
@OP, you can't force someone to stay in the game with you for reps. That's not how MtG works.
I feel your pain, once upon a time I played 8rack and that had a similar effect.

Mindslaver and academy ruins has worked well for me ;)

I know you're joking Profet93 but for those that don't know opponents can still scoop out from under mindslaver lol

The_Raven, GoldGhost012, alulien, and Ohthenoises, thanks for your input. i should rephrase the question: my friend group really hates janky decks, but i love lantern. i played a budget 8-rack, and after 2 matches they decided to ban it. If there's any way to have it be not such a grueling loss, or make them have some fun, I can play it with them more often.

8-rack saying Lantern control is the pot calling the kettle black, albeit once 8-rack has the lock on the win comes a bit faster (enchantment pings, The Rack) than the slow mill. When it comes to playing casually it's really hard to make people be willing to play against decks they perceive as not fun.
Since it's all subjective I'd recommend talking to your friends and asking what about it makes it no fun and if there are ways they'd feel less bad about playing against/losing to it. You're running a super competitive deck when compared to casual/budget lists, so I wonder if the relative power level of your list vs. theirs makes them feel like it's just a loss every time no matter what? It sounds like you're willing to make some adjustments or compromise based on their feedback... so ask!

lol I just mean that it really hard to get testing in with either deck lol.
If you are playing in a casual group with lantern control you may need to switch up what you play, by definition lantern is a competitive deck.
If your playgroup is playing competitive decks themselves they need to deal with it. Someone running top tier has no right to complain lol.

You can stop people from conceding by conceding in response to their concession on the stack.

Concession doesn't use the stack, or even require priority. ;)

You're right, it's an entire phase, similar to combat. It only happens on the last turn of the game though.

They're not conceding because it's so boring. They're conceding because you have a deterministic victory and they recognize that.

ComradeJim270, i know. that happens too, but most of the opponents tell me how boring the deck is to play against before just leaving.

Again, if you're playing a spike deck in a casual group then it's on you. If you are playing a spike deck in a spike group then it seems to me you are worried too much about friends.
When I was playing 8rack I was very honest.
"I'm looking for volunteers for the rack, I need to test it and I can't do it solo, help?"
I'd usually get at least 2 bites.
Try something similar.

Fleetwood-Mat What? Did you even bother to read any of the comments?
sylvannos I wasn't sure if you were being sarcastic or not so I figured I'd take the safe route and assume you weren't. :P

If you want to test your deck, especially one like lantern, a casual group is not going to work well, Mtgo leagues are your best bet

Lol. "I'm playing the most boring deck in the format, how to make my opponent watch me for hours while he can't do sh*t?" Well you can't, change deck. :)

Well, I thought my joke was pretty funny... much funnier than yours... your joke was quite lame and unintelligent, almost as if you planned it to be so...
October 22, 2016 10:55 p.m.
guys lay off each other. its hard to tell what is and isn't a joke online. just let it go.
October 23, 2016 10:53 a.m.
Opponent goes to pick up cards.
"Hey, I thought we were playing magic. Where you going?"

Then you don't put that in 'modern help' but in some casual stuff. You seem so much more intelligent than us it should have been crystal clear to you since the beginning. (<- THAT is a 'joke' btw)
