Was Ob Nixilis ever a Planeswalker?

His flavor text begins with "after he lost his spark...."

Yeah, he lost his spark when he ended up in Zendikar and he was transformed into a demon I believe

I believe Zendikar's unpredictable mana and the Roil combined to transform him, thus making him lose his spark and vow vengeance... he swore revenge against a dying plane being consumed by colorless almost-unstoppable Titans. Yeah, good plan, Ob Nixilis. Have fun dying. Gideon Jura sends his regards from Ravnica.

Did Gideon inherit his spark or are Ob and Gideon completely unrelated.

They're completely unrelated as far as their sparks go, but Gideon Jura was first printed in Rise of the Eldrazi, the final set in the Zendikar block. Given that Ob Nixilis, the Fallen is a legendary black demon and Gideon is a 'legendary' white crusader of sorts, I'm sure they heard of each other at some point and likely thought of each other as enemies in a way.

Ob Nixilis was a demon planeswalker that came to the plane of Zendikar and when the mending occurred he lost his spark, forever bound to the plane of Zendikar.

If i remember correctly creatures without a soul can't have planeswalker sparks and demons don't have souls so he can't of been a demon planeswalker he would of been some other creature most likely a humanoid before he lost his spark. I don't quite know if it was transforming into a demon that made him lose his spark or he lost it then transformed into a demon but he would of had to of been some other creature when he had his spark.

Alright, I'm gonna go ahead and call BS right now on people saying Demons CAN'T have souls. I'm sorry, but given the fact that the Multiverse has an infinite number of permutations, I'm certain there is at least on plane where demons have souls. So, within our own mythos (yes, I called religion mythos, but it's what we call Ancient Greek and Roman religions anyways), Demons don't have souls. In another plane? Hey, look at that, they do. So, given reasonable doubt in that:

  1. Ob Nixilis is a demon.

  2. Ob Nixilis was a Planeswalker.

and 3. The multiverse has a large than infinite number of possibilities (seriously, from 0 to 1, there's an infinite number of numbers and that continues on between every integer for infinity. Try to wrap your head around it).

I think we can safely say that there is a reasonable chance that there are demons that can get a spark. Also, look at Karn, that guy doesn't have a soul and he's had two sparks. Never his own, but he's still had two of them. And before someone tries to correct me on that, Golems don't have souls, according to our mythos.

Aye but Karn was given his which is very different to actually having one I suppose there is nothing that states Demons are souless in fact that's probably the wrong way of putting it more likely a corrupted soul. I think wizards are just leaving this ambiguous so it builds up tons of debate and they can create a story for him later on.

Exactly. It's just something I've had a problem with for a while. Don't know why.

Actually, in Magic Lore, Angels and Demons are usually pure manifestations of white and black mana, respectively. Not sure whether they have a soul on all worlds or not, but (for example) Theros demons are altered versions of dead souls that transform in an influx of black mana (see the most recent Planeswalker's Guide to Theros).
