Wait, rogue decks can be good?

Check out this deck here RUG Soulbond. After playing against or with it, tell me the deck is not good. You can't! I strongly believe that this deck should get more credit because so far it only has one bad matchup. Bant control. Not the entreat version, but the tusk, and angel of serenity version. Just take a look and tell me what you think. Oh and the staticaster/peddler combo is good. Just test it out.

That's the biggest thing I'm liking about the Ravnica block standard right now is the sheer variety of decks that are doing well competively. In Caw blade and Delvers day, almost 80% of the meta were "those" decks. Now the largest percentage of any deck played competively is Jund control, commanding only 13% of the meta. Another thing that I am enjoying is the almost 50/50 split between control players and aggro players in the meta. Combo decks still command the smallest percentage, but 11% of top 8 finishing decks are now combo decks compared to the abysmal 6 percenter years. I love rogue decks myself (I am a home brewer and honestly detest net decking, just not my thing).

Ramp seems to be a popular choice now. Bant control and Jund midrange are things. They are also DEADLY things. 99.99% of my meta is Jund so I guess I'm a rouge lol.

Selesnya ramp FTW! lol

Lol. Tell them to stop! They're skewing the meta! I honestly haven't been to an FNM in awhile, so I'm not sure what my local meta "things" are right now. That being said, I live in Arkansas, and I have yet to see the state standings so far and the meta never seemed that sting here anyway considering my Venser deck made Top 8 appearances pretty regularly.

wait has anyone looked at the meta in Thragtusk decks and non-Thragtusk decks?

Hmm decks running the best creature in standard, versus the decks not running the best creature in standard? Would be interesting to see.

That's a good point. I just took a look, and even though the archetyea are different, Thragtusk is being played in roughly 40% of decks just by taking a glance at the general meta (mtgtop8.com).

Unlike Delver of Secrets  Flip , which required a deck archetype to be truly powerful, Thragtusk is good on it's own.

It can be thrown into any Green deck to to give a large amount of power that is difficult for most deck types to handle.

The + Life slows down aggro.

The + Creature token slows down removal style control, including board wipes.

The LTB, that isn't 'when dies' slows down 'exile', 'bounce', and 'top/bottom of library' effects.

Having both an ETB and LTB makes the number of cards it can combo with ridiculous.

Combined with Cavern of Souls , for counter prevention, Thragtusk is it's own answer to virtually any deck type it comes against... Combo decks may be the one exception.

Any time a card is automatically used in a format, so long as you are playing it's color, you have to wonder if it's broken. If ever there's been a card that fit's that description it's Thragtusk .

I've been seeing non-green decks splashing green just for this one creature as it's main win-con... at least delver decks were consistently blue.

*End of rant!

It's true. And yet, I find it hard to hate thragtusk on this. Compared to delver we have a much more varied meta. I think it's actually less annoying to see one creature in a multitude of decks, thank to see one deck with minor variations every other game.

Even with Thragtusk being in 40% of the decks in the meta, it is infinitely preferable, in my humble opinion, than JTMS showing up in 80% of the decks in the meta before the ban.
