Untapping lands with Rewind

Hi.

Basic question: the 4 lands tapped to pay for Rewind cost will only untap if Rewind resolves, right? So, say, if it is countered by Negate, the four mana stay tapped, correct?

That is correct. The countering and untapping of lands are both results of the spell, so if the spell is countered neither effect takes place.

If they respond to your Rewind with something like card:Autumn's Veil, however, the spell will resolve as much as possible. Their spell will not be countered but you WILL be able to untap your lands.

If you have anything that doubles mana (Caged Sun ) and anything that returns cards to your hand you can have infinite mana with this and another instant. Thought about it for edh. Would be GREAT.

I love rewind, best counterspell ever in my opinion. I was able to use two Rewinds to stop two creatures, then still use a Cancel to prevent 5 Damage, all with 4 land. I laughed my a** off... needless to say my opponent didn't XD.
