Okay, I know Gideon Jura is a good card. But I have friends that rave about him and how good he is. Personally, I don't see it. I think there's just something about his abilities that I'm not noticing. Can someone help explain to me how to use him?
Well, he can protect you and planeswalkers you control. He can kill things easily. And he's a 6/6 that's semi indestructible for 5. Dropping him, and then next turn using Day of Judgment is hardly a bad thing.
I believe there was a time in which he was like $40 USD.

Play him and tap all your opponent's creatures, then next turn attack with a 6/6 that can't be damaged, preferably after Wrathing an overcommitted board. He's extremely good, but admittedly he's one of those cards where you might not be able to see the greatness until you play several games with him and/or against him.

I guess I'm having a hard time seeing how to keep him alive, if everytime you use his +2, you are guarenteed to have all of your opponents swinging at him next turn. Unless you have a ton of tough blockers, I don't see how that ability is worth it. And without it or proliferate, he's not going to last very long.

Well its +2 only targets one player, so they all don't have to attack.

Gideon Jura 's +2 only affects one opponent at a time, and 8 is a lot of damage for a single attack. What kind of games are you talking about? Yeah, Gideon gets a bit weaker and harder to keep alive in games with 3 or more players, but so does almost every planeswalker.

I run him in a defender heavy casual deck. Forcing my opponent to attack me when I have Guard Gomazoa , Gomazoa , Perimeter Captain , and maybe a High Ground . Then next turn gideon gets to murder their biggest threat? Its pretty nice.

He's most effective in a control shell because he can come down and divert your opponent's attacks, increasing your survivability. He also assassinates creatures and can serve as a decent-sized creature on his own if you're having trouble landing a finisher.
He might also have applications in midrange aggro mirrors because he can force a swing and allow you to get in for some damage.
