Well, I have some questions about this card:

a) When the Wurm enters the battlefield and I am at 5 life, would I then be at 7 or at 12?

b) If I am at 8 life and the opponent decides to attack for 10 damage, whould I stay with 7 life?

c) If I am at 7 life and the opponent attacks me with 10 damage, can I let all the damage pass and still be at 7, or I die?

Thanks =)

In all cases you end up with 7 life.

So, for the opponent to beat me with combat damage, it would be absolutely necessary to kill the Wurm first, right?

Thanks

Until Elderscale Wurm dies, you cannot die. You are locked at 7 life.

You can still die of life loss. Elderscale Wurm only prevents damage.

Elderscale prevents all damage that lower your life total to less than 7, no matter how much damage is dealt to you, you stay at 7 life. It is still possible to lose the game through damage effects or milling out or cards that just don't let you win the game.

so.....

A) if you are at 5 you do go to 7.

B) yes you will go to 7 life.

C) once again yes you will stay at 7 life as long as elder is alive, it is possible that after you declare no blocks he can destroy the wurm and you will lose the game.

when i saw Elderscale Wurm . i was very sad. Just because i know its yet another big dumb green creature that i will never use, and probably boost a shit-ton of them. I'm not a green player. I try to be but it's just not my color.

You could still lose by other means, but life loss is not an option until after the wurm is dead. Unfortunately, that normally happens pretty fast against many of the decent decks out there. Not to mention that he's do big that to just get him out is often difficult unless you're running plenty of ramp.

I'm not sure if it is just the phrasing, rckclimber777, but you can definitely die to 'life loss' from things like card:Geralf's Messenger or Blood Artist as those sources are not doing damage.

Actually you're absolutely right. it would have been more accurate for me to say "loss of life caused by damage". Those mentioned would be accurate as they do not do damage.
