Does exile trigger death effects?

I can't seem to find a good explanation of exile that includes its impact on death triggers (the comprehensive rules section on the Exile zone didn't help). Some cards are obvious: like Thragtusk since it specifically says "when Thragtusk leaves the battlefield". But what about Black Cat , Elder Cathar , Doomed Traveler etc? Does exiling them trigger those effects?
The rule you are looking for is:
700.6. The term dies means "is put into a graveyard from the battlefield."
Since exile removes from the game the card never goes to the graveyard and therefore would not trigger death triggers, as Xindlepete said.

Yes death is the act of going into a graveyard, exile therefore doesn't count as death.

No. Dies specifically refers to a creature going to the graveyard. Exile effects do not trigger ETG effects.
