COCKATRICE wtf?

Why is Cockatrice so ugly? Not the card, the software that plays Mtg. At least the card Cockatrice can kill a blocking Progenitus , but the Mtg playtester is so unfriendly to use its horrifying... I get it, you can play against "real" people, unlike Tappedout's playtester. But it sucks. Is there another one that would be as user-friendly and cool as Tappedout's playtester, but that could also be used to play against other players?

Cockatrice may not be user-friendly right off the bat, but it's extremely versatile and awesome to use.

Maybe you should read some tutorials online or just give it time.

We should use tappedout's playtester and connect it to other users. Nooooooow we'd have something nice. Can we do that? :D

That would be awesome.

MTGO. But that costs money.

Cockatrice is quite frustrating at first. But once you get the hang of the program it isn't too bad. To be honest though, I only use it to goldfish or when talking to people on Skype (makes it basically like playing paper Magic).

Cockatrice is actually quite good once you learn the hotkeys (it lists them all under "File" in a game). Just boot up Cockatrice, stay "disconnected", start a local game, and get used to the hotkeys. You can also double-click on the phases on the left part of the screen and Untap, Draw, or whatever.

Or, y'know, if you like paying money for cards you'll never hold, just play on MTGO.

tl;dr - Why complain about a free-to-play program when there are nearly identical programs out there that require you to pay?

I use a program called OCTGN, and it has a pretty nice UI.

Not as active as Cocatrice or MTGO but it's awesome.

Ok maybe I'll give it a try. I love the Skype idea though! I have a friend far from home, we could actually play magic on internet, would be cool.

Hey guys do you know if I could create my own Mtg set and play it on Cockatrice? My friends and I have made a bunch of fake cards for our D&D characters, would be cool to actually try them.

@pheonix_222 wooooooooooooooooooooooooooow I think I just fell in love with you dude! It looks so sweet, it even has a fake table to play on! Definitely have to try it. :)

Oh and can I play my fake Mtg set on this OCTGN?

I'm not sure if it's even possible to put custom cards on Cockatrice. You can certainly ask on their forums.

I have heard that you can put custom cards onto Cockatrice. However, I'm not sure how one would do this. (Probably has to do with altering the card database that the program pulls from).

Cockatrice has a lot of features that Tapped Out's playtester currently doesn't, like being able to discard randomly.

Yeah I just installed Workstation. Its even uglier than the petrifying chicken loll. Guess I'll have to face my fears of user-unfriendliness and learn how to use them... OCTGN is really nice, I'll try to find out how to tweak the cards's images, maybe I could swap 'em for my fake cards. Itd be so cool. Anyway, thanks for the info guys!
