Clones + Undying

My question relates specifically to Vesuvan Doppelganger , but is probably applicable for other cards that clone as well. If I turn my Vesuvan Doppelganger into something with undying, say a Flayer of the Hatebound , then he dies and goes to the graveyard, will it come back with a +1/+1 counter on it? Or will it stay in the graveyard? I guess my question is when the trigger for undying triggers, versus when the game state is checked to turn the doppelganger back into the doppelganger, thus removing the undying ability.
I apologize if this isn't clear in any way. Feel free to hit me up for clarification. Thanks in advance!
Thanks! Sorry about putting this in the wrong forum. Really appreciate the quick answer though.

Where is the Q & A section? Clearly I'm just missing something obvious here.

Could be fun with a sacrifice outlet and creature targets with persist and undying. You could go back and forth, copying an undying creature with your Clone , sacrificing it (for mana, life, card draw, etc) and then 'resurrecting' it as a creature with persist, repeat sacrifice, and so on and so on.

@cklise -- I don't think that putting -1/-1 counters on something is the same as removing +1/+1 counters, I'm not sure that combo works, though Epochalyptik is the rules expert.

@Nigeltastic: That's the point. If you alternate between cloning an undying and a persist creature, your clone creature will always come back because it will die with the other kind of counter.

Oh... derp... counters go away because they die... wow... I shouldn't try to rules late at night...

Rules questions should be asked in the Q&A.
The creature will have undying when it dies, so undying will trigger. The card will return to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter, but it will reenter as though you had just cast it (i.e. it won't still be what it was copying when it died).
